I'm struggling to find ferry and/or air travel between Crete and Santorini during the month of October. All is possible if I go through Athens, but I'd like to do a Crete-Santorini-Athens loop if possible. Any suggestions to solve this travel glitch?
You are not getting any responses. I am trying to do nearly the same thing with no success. We want to go to Rome from Santorini in mid October. Earlier when I checked I thought I found a direct flight to Rome but now am only finding flights through Athens --- and it takes all day. I do know from my hotel inquiries that Santorini begins shutting down around mid October. Ferry schedules become unpredictable due to weather and lack of demand. I am beginning to think that I do not have any options other than through Athens.
The problem you're facing is the seasonality of the ferries, and I believe October can be a rough month on the seas. We had the same problem last year in May before the ferry season started. I'd suggest flying, which is what we did when we went to Santorini a couple years ago. It's a short and scenic flight from Athens.
