We will be about 5 minutes from Perypteuse (in an area between Perpignan and Carcassonne) and my husband would like to take a day trip or overnight to Lourdes. What is the best train route or should he drive (we will have a car). From what I can tell he will have to take regular rail line and then transfer to TGV at some point? But I'm not sure. Is an overnight recommended or can he do it in the one day?
It looks as though the trip from Carcassonne is about three and a half hours by train each way. And of course you have to get to Carcassonne and back. I think that's dicey for a day trip, more feasible overnight.
I don't know if this beats driving or not. I've never been to Lourdes, but I have been to Peyrepertuse, so I know what the roads can be like.
The train is about 2 hours fro Toulouse. Are you passing though Toulouse at any point in your trip? If so, your husband might save some trouble by going to Lourdes from there.
