I am planning on going from Salzberg Aus. to Lake Bled, in Slovenia. I am thinking of taking the train. Does anyone know if I would be OK getting around Lake Bled without a car? Or I could also go to Ljubljana first, to rent a car and then go to lake Bled. Any suggestions? Thank you in advance for your assistance. john
Once you get to Bled you'd have no problem checking out the town/lake without a car. However, if you wanted to suss out more of the area/scenery (drive the Vrsic Pass, for instance), you'd probably need/want a car as I'm not sure public transportation would do. What time of year would this be? It's a small town that I understand gets inundated with visitors during the summer (and winter, as there is skiing nearby), so you'd want to make sure your hotel had a parking spot for you. We were there in March with a car and had no issues with parking/getting around. Lastly, have you checked to see if there are rental agencies in Bled itself? I think Sixt has one, which would obviate the need to go to Ljubljana first.
