Has anyone had trouble going through the new full-body scanners at airport security while wearing an underwire bra? I've never had a problem going through traditional scanners but I read an article last autumn that said because the full-body scanners are more sensitive, wearing an underwire isn't a good idea. If it makes a difference, I'll be flying through SeaTac, Heathrow and Dublin.
The full body scanners aren't just searching for metal, and they'll be able to see that it is right there in the bra area, it shouldn't be a problem. I can't comment on those cities, but I was in a body scanner in St. Louis's Lambert Intl Airport and didn't have a problem with my bra. When going through security at Heathrow, I did forget to take some large metal earrings out of my ears, and I was patted down after setting the metal detectors off. When first being scanned with the wand, my underwire set off the wand and she then felt around my bra. So in my experience, if you are going through the full body scanners, an underwire isn't a problem. When being scanned with the wand, it will set it off and be checked.
As a lady who has had the full pat-down because of my underwire multiple times (I've set off the door-like metal detectors several times), I'm a huge fan of the full body scanners. I've been through at least twice (at Christmas, travelling to Miami, and in February, on my way to Madrid), and both times I sailed right through, no pat-down!
Thanks, Devon and Kyla. I guess I won't worry about my underwire! :-)
You should be so lucky you need an underwire bra!!!!!!!!!
Flown multiple times and no problem with underwires in traditional or full body scanners.
