Can anyone give some insight about the scenic value of this train trip and possible places to stop for a short break in the south of France. Perhaps for half a day.
We plan on leaving La Spezia on the 10th of August and being in Barcelona on the afternoon of the twelfth.

If you take an early train you can be in Nice by mid-day. You could take a break here, go into the old town for lunch, wander for a while. Why not break up your trip with an overnight stay a.ong the way? Marseilles, anyone?

It's just under 600 miles from LaSpezia to Barcelona which is farther than I want to go via train/
It'd be less expensive and so much more efficient to take the short train ride down to Pisa and catch a budget flight on Vueling Airlines to Barcelona.
