Kudos to Delta airlines

As our RS tour to the Basque Country in September was cancelled on June 9th, I needed to cancel our round trip flights to Paris. The originally booked non-stop flight had been cancelled in late April and we were automatically rebooked with a layover in Minneapolis. On June 10th I called Delta, was given a 4 hour 30 minute call back time. The call back came on time and after a 5 minute conversation with an agent, I was granted a full refund. On June 12th the credit appeared on my credit card account . After reading stories about dissatisfaction with customer service and airline refunds (and non-refunds), I thought I would share my very positive one!

I have now had to cancel three trips on Delta, one having paid by credit card and two using miles. All three cancellations on Delta were done on the website, no need to call. All three were refunded(credited) within a couple of days. I will remember these experiences when booking again when travel resumes. Very positive experiences!

My husbands has been pending for over 2 months now. I guess he will need to call again tomorrow.

Hi Mikliz, Have you tried the chat function on Delta’s website? I got good and prompt service when I needed to change flights in March. I was very happy with the service. Good luck!

Mine has been pending since April. I finally reached someone on Twitter who said that because I'd made a split payment (partially on a gift card, partially on a credit card) it had to be handled in a different department for a full refund. When I talked to them, they were then processing those requests which had been submitted about two weeks ahead of mine. So...the rep was nice enough to say that clearly it was going to take longer than the 30 business days they were telling for certain types of refunds, like mine.

This may have nothing to do with your situation. Just wanted to let you know that you aren't alone in waiting for your refund.

A further note to my original post: The Delta rep I talked to said my refund would come through fairly quickly as it involved just one credit card transaction. She said there is a much longer wait for a refund if any or all of the ticket purchase included miles, vouchers, gift cards, eCredits, etc. as those required more hands on manipulation .

My husband and I also had a very good experience with Delta. Our September Villages of Southern England tour was cancelled on June 9. I called Delta at 3:00 AM on June 10. (I thought I would have better luck contacting them early in the morning). The recorded message said it would be a three minute wait. Actually, it was a three hour wait on hold since I was not given the option of a call-back time. By 6:00 AM, I got a representative. It took only a five minute conversation to get a complete refund of $5300 (we had purchased four airline tickets, since we were each taking a sister on tour with us). On June 12 we received a notice that the refund had been applied to our credit card (a Delta SkyMiles AMEX). I am not sure if we got such great service because we have that type of credit card or because our original flight had been changed by Delta and we would have missed our connecting flight. We were extremely pleased and surprised that not only did we get a refund, it came within a few days of our cancelled tour. We have always flown Delta and we will certainly continue to be their loyal customers in the future.

Good experience here, too. Called last Wednesday, waited 40 minutes. Credit came through 48 hours later. We just used one CC. Customer Service was very nice.

The Twitter rep DID offer me a voucher (vs. a refund) if I wanted the transaction processed immediately, but they said that was all that they were able to do. I was just pleased somebody told me why it was taking so long!
