We are planning to travel from Krakow to Budapest in mid-July and had hoped to take the night train. What is a reasonable cost for that trip? Should we book ahead to get a couchette? I got a quote through Polrail.com and it was quite pricey--$575 USD for two adults and two kids for a 4 berth couchette. Are there other options?

Hi, Garin, I just took the night train in the opposite direction (Budapest-Krakow) on May 26. I didn't book ahead, just went to the ticketing office the day before our departure. From Budapest, two beds in a 6-berth couchette came to a total of 77 euro. The 4 berth couchette will undoubtedly be a bit pricier, but this should give you an idea of what to expect.
I also got a different route quoted from Polrail's online service (Krakow-Prague) and found that their quote was approximately 120 zloty more than what I was charged on site.
