Keep checking your flights— just saved $500!

We recently booked for May nonstop Newark to Dublin seats in Polaris. I had been watching flights for several months and finally booked at the end of November because there aren’t a ton of Polaris seats on the 767 and as soon as a few get booked the price jumps. Because it’s far in advance I booked fully refundable seats in case the price dropped.

I got on United today and they’ve changed the planes for ALL of the 7:25 pm May departures from 767 to 777. So not only had the price dropped, but now we have a 1-2-1 configuration and can sit together. The original flights had a 1-1-1 configuration and.

Even if we didn’t have non-refundable seats we were eligible for a one time change due to the change in aircraft. But I wasn’t notified by United about the change. Because I just happened to check I saw both the lower price and preferred seat options. If United emailed me a few weeks from now more seats could have been sold and we wouldn’t have saved $500 and possibly wouldn’t have been able to get seats together!

So keep checking your flights even after you book because things change and they don’t always tell you!

Well that all worked out well! I'm glad you ended up on the better configuration for sitting together, and saving money at the same time!!

I just checked the price of my flight for Spain, and it’s $600 higher than when I purchased it!

Well, nothing like that, but I saved $22 on a hotel reservation for December by checking again, cancelling and rebooking. It's better than a sharp stick in the eye !!
