I’m watching round trip fares for Tampa to Rome for 2 weeks in October. (7 - 22). Kayak is saying fares are holding steady, but they predict prices will drop in the next week or so. Does anyone have experience or feedback on how well Kayak’s predictions work? Today’s chart shows lowest fares on 7/30/22. I’m anxious to buy tix soon so I can get the time frames I want. Thanks.
I have seen their predictions be spot on and also dead wrong, so I would not bank on their reliability too much.
If you’re happy with the current price, I would just book now.
I would not wait much longer if you're planning to go in Oct. If you find a price you can live with, book it, and most importantly don't go back and keep checking after you book. It'll drive you nuts! ;-)
I would actually wait - but I can live with the risk. Prices will fall after schools start after Sept 1. If you look at prices for Nov, they are getting cheap. I priced an LAX-WAW for 470 leaving end of Oct and returning 1st week of Nov. Rome was about $570 for that timeframe. Obviously, I didn't check Tampa.
i would suggest also trying out Google Flights - can put in multiple airports or just use Europe for the destination - then zoom in/out and you can see where the cheap tickets are.
I always check google flights, and like the fact that I’m directed to the airline to book my flights.
Beware of using third party vendors such as Kayak. If there’s a problem with your flight (delayed or cancelled), you have better recourse when booking directly with the airline.
Thanks, everyone, for your replies. I’m using Kayak and Google flights to check price trends, but will book directly with the airlines as I usually do.
