We are planning our first ever trip to Europe and we are so excited! We are planning a trip to Italy this April. I have tried to find out as much info as I can online and have been having fun researching. I've been watching ticket prices and they don't seem to be dropping plus they were a great price so I nervously booked it tonight. If I would have booked direct through Lufthansa it was $600 more. I booked through Air Canada even though it say Lufthansa flights and now am worried that I've made a mistake? I booked economy basic not light but still didn't pick our seats as it as quite a bit more. I would so much appreciate any advice or help. We live in WA state and will be flying out of Vancouver. We have traveled a bunch through Asia but so excited to see Italy. I really appreciate your time and help. Thank you so much!
I don’t think booking your flights through Air Canada vs. Lufthansa will be a big issue. If you saved money, good for you!
Good to know you were able to save $600. I kept looking at vancouver rather than seattle, but it was way more. Next trip i will look via air canas
We did this a few years ago, flying from Oregon to Munich via Air Canada to Vancouver, then on Lufthansa to Frankfurt. We weren’t able to get seat assignments until check in 24 hours before the flight.
On the way home, we flew Lufthansa from Munich to Vancouver, then Air Canada to Oregon. Lufthansa weighed and measured (using the metal sizer) both our checked and carry on bag. So pay close attention to the limits. They also randomly checked the size of bags at the gate. If your bag is too big, you pay a big fee to check it.
I’m leaving next week for Italy on Lufthansa booked through AC as well.
It will all be fine.
Get the apps for both AC and Lufthansa on your phones or devices.
If you set up a login with both, you’ll see your flights on both so you can keep checking on them as you get closer to departure.
You can also check the YVR website to watch that flight’s daily departures.
You’ll see two flight codes, one for each, but also see “operated by Lufthansa.”
If it’s to Munich first, like mine, they seem to always be a little delayed leaving , every couple of days.
You can see videos on YouTube of the cabins and seats.
If you do want to pre purchase seats, you can get seats maps on the this site:
https://www.aerolopa.com/
Seat Guru is no longer updated, not for years, so don’t look there for seat maps.
And yes, as above, Lufthansa, especially coming home, is very strict about bag sizes and weight.
If you plan carryon only, be very exact…..or you might have to pay to check last minute.
Go by Lufthansa’s measurements, not Air Canada’s.
Lufthansa is very efficient, I’ve flown them a few times.
The food isn’t the greatest though, but who cares when you have Italian food to look forward to!
I will join others in saying you are fine.
Wow - you guys are awesome! Thank you all so much for taking the time to respond. Such a huge help and I feel so much better. My wife and I are both teachers and squeezing all we can out of our Spring Break. Our layover is 95 minutes in Munich so I sure hope that won't be an issue but we are booked and can't wait. Yes, we are flying to Munich first and then on to Venice. On the way home we will fly from Rome to Vancouver. We are so excited. Great advice on the luggage and I'll make sure my wife reads that post a few times. :)
This forum is amazing and you guys are the reason why. Thank you all again for taking the time to help. It is so much appreciated! Made my day!
Thank you!
Munich airport is efficient.
As long as you land on time you will easily make your flight to Venice.
Just keep checking the info boards as you go along to your next gate.
Sometimes the gates changes unexpectedly and you’d have to backtrack.
Now have a look at the section here on packing!
There is plenty of good advice.
