Ryanair requires all passengers to print their boarding passes prior to arriving at the airport. If they wait, it will cost an extra 40 Euros/Pounds--depending on the country you're in. But a Spanish judge has decided this fee is illegal as it is the airline that is responsible for printing the pass, not the passenger. Ryanair said it will appeal. Should it lose, the airline says they may still require people to print out their own pass. If they arrive at the airport without one, they don't fly. http://travel.usatoday.com/flights/post/2011/01/ryanair-boarding-pass-charge/139167/1 Who do you think will win?
Frank - Interesting article. It causes me to wonder. If Ryan Air loses thier case, will they have to pay the boarding fee back to the people that were charged the fee?
Frank II, Interesting development! Finally, someone is taking a look at RyanAir pricing policies! Hopefully they'll also lose the appeal. The only thing that worries me is that I believe they will follow through on their threat to make life even more miserable for their passengers if they lose.
No everyone owns a printer. And what are you supposed to do when you are coming home? Who travels with a printer? I hope I can go my whole life without traveling on Ryanair.
Even if you have access to the internet or to a printer (at home I use either the library or the church) if the part of the website that lets you sign in is down you won't be able to do that no matter what the airline wants you to do. That happened to me in late December when I was going to visit family in the Houston, Texas, area. I was able to use the self-sign-in kloisk at the airport without any proplem. And a week later when I was going home it was fixed. I checked online the morning of my flight when I wouldn't get signed in but it was still down. Delta. I suppose that airports or going to require that Ryanair have free sign-in kloisks if they want to fly in and out of them. That's the only way that such stupidity can even be kept to a minimum and I'm not sure even then. Of course, from what I've heard (here and other places), I'm not sure I want to ever fly Ryanair no matter how good the fares are. Too much hidden.
