We have a 4 hour layover at JFK between our flight from Kansas City and our departure to Frankfurt. I've got status on UAL so I'd like to while away some time in the UAL Club in terminal 7 prior to getting to terminal 1 for our Lufthansa flight. How much time should I allow to move from terminal to terminal? Is it walkable inside of security or do I need to take the AirTrain (which looks like its outside of security).
Going from T7 to T1, you are required to go through security. The good news is that T1 is relatively new and pleasant (I haven't been in T7 in some time, so I don't know what it's like now).
The Airtrain runs frequently, and as long as you get on the right one (you want the one that circles the terminals, and not the ones that go to "Howard Beach" or "Jamaica"), it will take less than 10 minutes to get between terminals on the train. Of course, you have to make your way to and from the Airtrain station, which can take some time, as well as needing time for security.
And allow time to wait for the next bus.
