Travelling to New York, does anyone have a recommendation as to which airport to chose, in terms of a seamless onward travel into downtown New York? I only have dreadful memories from JFK! Which airport offers best public transportation into Manhattan without too much hassle? Does it make a difference, in this case, which airline I chose or they all arrive at a same terminal for international flights? Any response would be very much appreciated -many thanks!
Travel from EWR is easy as can be. Little monorail from terminals connects to station of New Jersey transit, with about 3 trains to Penn Station every hour. Easy.
Newark. There is a train station at the airport with direct NJ Transit trains to Penn Station-Manhattan.....three or four trains per hour depending on time of day. Both terminals B & C (which Continental/United uses as a hub) have immigration halls. On slow days only the hall in terminal B is used. Both halls are very modern and efficient....almost identical.
many thanks. Good to know. Newark it will be then!
There is an express bus that runs from JFK to Grand Central Terminal (42d st & Lexington Ave) then to Bryant Park area (which is further west) and then to Port Authority. You can access most subway lines at Grand Central. This not a city bus, it is private. You buy a ticket at the pick up point from the company rep who will be wearing a blue vest or blue jacket. You can get further information at the "Ground Transportation Desk" in thearrivals terminal.
I live about 45 minutes away from both JFK and Newark and fly in/out of both depending on cost of flights and convenience of departure/arrival times. Getting to or from either is, in my opinion, the same pain.
