Jet Rail

Linz to Budapest on Jet Rail. Ticket says 085/Window and 087/Aisle. Also on ticket: Wg 22 (Waggen 22?) Grossraumwaggen. What coach number do we look for? Is is car 2 or 22? Are the seat assignments 085 and 087 specific seat numbers or do they refer to compartments? Other tips for boarding at Linz to find correct car?

Yes - you have seats 85 and 87 in wagen number 22. Grossraum means open plan - in other words, not a compartment car. The car number will be displayed on a board on the outside of the car.

It probably won't impede you finding the train, but the name is "Railjet". Railjet is Austria's answer to the German ICE.

Gordon, when not absolutely sure of your car/seat, always ask - perhaps repeatedly! - anyone in uniform on the train platform! Have your ticket out so that they can see your car/seat number. Most of the time they're standing around waiting for the departure time anyway...but try not to pick the ones that look really busy if you don't want to get brushed off ;-) It's probably the 2nd car (but the wagon number will still be 22); I've never seen a RailJet with more than around 6-8 cars total. If you don't know what the interiors/exteriors of the Railjet trains look like: http://www.seat61.com/railjet.htm Be sure and look at the 360 degree views! Here's a page from the Austrian train website - these cars have wagon numbers 351-357!: http://www.oebb.at/en/Services/Services_on_the_train/Our_trains/OeBB_railjet/Graphic_seat_reservation/index.jsp

I thought I'd answer your PM in your thread, in case someone else is following it... After looking at my RailJet ticket...I'm in Wagon 27, and I know it's the 7th car, so...Wagon 22 looks like the 2nd car (and 2nd class). Also, somewhere on your ticket is "KL" and/or "CL"; after that is either a '1' or a '2'. That's your ticket class. The cars of all 2 or 3 classes look really nice, though! Oh, and "Zug" will be your train number. "Ruhezone" is the 'Quiet Car' (no phone calls, music, talking, etc.). Have I left something out?

You might add that on the platform in Linz there will be a vertical board with the "layout" of trains that use that platform. The car numbers will be shown, and at the top of the board in capital letters - A, B, C, D, & E. Above the platform will be the same letters. Find the relationship between car 22 and the letters on the board. That will show you where on the platform the car will be when the train stops.
