What can you tell me about Jamaica We will be there 11/26/2012 thru 12/3/2012.Staying at a resort near Montego Bay. We would like to know how to pack. Any hints on saving money would help. Chio
Rosario this is a Europeon travel forum, there are of course individuals here who have been to other places and do try and help those who stray on here, but for the most responses you really should go to a Jamaica specific forum. May I suggest you go to tripadvisor.com Jamaica forums, just google it. You will get tons of help there !
It's been years since we were in Jamaica (1994), but Jamaica is very casual and laid back. You won't need long pants, long sleeves, or sweatshirts. Depending on your resort, nice shorts, a sundress are probably more than sufficient if you need to dress up. Your Phoenix casual wardrobe should be just fine. Jamaica's more humid, but not as hot as Phoenix summers. Take your watch off and take the first 24 hours to unwind and come to the realization that there is not much of a sense of time or urgency. But after that, you will probably have the most relaxing week of your life. Just roll slowly with the flow. And be sure to lock any valables in an in room safe and with the front desk.
It's been a few years, but outside of the resort, you will have many people try to sell you anything. Just smile, politely say "no man" and continue on you way.
Respectfully disagree about needing a pair of long pants. I have vacationed there for 8 of the last 10 years in January or Feb or March, and it can be quite breezy next to the ocean. Some friends have worn sweatshirts at night.
In summer I would pack linen or cotton pants only if you plan for the resort's fine dining (possibly airconditioned?) but in winter I'd take at least one long sleeve shirt and one long pants. As for saving money- pat's advice is good, also ask one of the staff at the hotel for recommendations. Taxis are not cheap.
