I am looking for suggestions on what to see & how to get there with a family of 5 on a short (6-7 day) after cruise land segment. We are doing a 12 night Med cruise in early June 2014. Leaving & returning from Barcelona. We did a different Med itinerary in 2012 & loved itit worked well with our family of 5 to see places easily. After the cruise, we would like to see some high points of Germany (castles, etc.I am guessing southern Germany?), Austria & Switzerland. I found a good fare on Lufthansa from Barcelona to Munich, so figure we will do that, or something similar. We will probably have about 6-7 days at the most. We will be flying Delta home (MSP), and fares from Frankfort, Stuttgart, Amsterdam, and Berlin are all about the same price when looking at dummy bookings.

For 6-7 days with 5 people, choose Switzerland or Austria and southern Bavaria, or another region of Germany, but not all three. That's basically enough time to change locations maybe twice, but not more. All three countries come together near the Bodensee, but I'm guessing you probably would not want to spend your entire 7 days in this region. The two most famous German castles, of course, are in southern Bavaria, but otherwise, that region isn't particularly castle-dense. You find a far higher concentration of castles further north, in western and central Germany.
