This is my first draft of my itinerary for this Summer. I've been reading the forum for a couple days now, but thought I'd post my specific questions.

  1. We are having to Fly from Paris to Stockholm ($516) then to Ft. Lauderdale ($1837.34) to save money as Paris to FLL is $4,437.44? Am I missing something with this high price?
  2. Am I trying to pack too much into this 21-day trip?

Hello from a fellow Tallahasseean!

On #2, yes, I think you have too much packed into your itinerary. It looks like you have 18 nights in Europe and are visiting 9 cities, (counting Stockholm twice). So that's only 2 nights per stop, but consider that changing cities consumes about half your sightseeing day. So realistically, you've got only about a day and a half in each place. That will be pretty hectic pace.

Paris looks like an outlier. Maybe skip Paris to give yourself more time in other spots?

Also - to get more responses you should consider posting this over in the Sweden or Germany forum.

On #1, yes those flight prices seem really high. I plugged in a TLH-Stockholm-TLH route into Expedia for your dates and got $1293.

FastEddie,

I can definitely review the itinerary and remove a place. My daughter has her hopes on going to Paris. Since we are personally heading to Salzburg after Munich, I might remove the "Sound of Music, Salzburg and Lake District Day Tour". I might also remove the Mullerthal Trail trip, but it is on the way from Bitburg to Paris. I went to high school in Bitburg, so removing it is tough for me.

The Paris to FLL flight is total for all 4 of us.

Oh, cross-posting this in the Germany and Sweden forums too.

In terms of flights and prices, are you looking at "open jaws" fares, or separate one-way fares? Or something else where you're booking the Paris-FLL fare separately? Each airline seems to do open jaws differently on their websites, but it's usually called something like "multi-city."
And it does seem like you're packing a lot into your time in Europe, with lots of moving around.
If you book the Paris to Stockholm flight separately than your Stockholm flight back home, then your transatlantic booking won't be protected if your Paris-Stockholm flight is delayed.
One thing about tours is that if you change your minds about your schedule, or the weather is bad, you're stuck with still doing the tour. Not that tours are bad, it's just a drawback. So when we travel (by ourselves or with our kids), we try to minimize guided tours, to maximize flexibility, and instead guide ourselves using guidebooks.
Also, you'll be in SALZBURG, and incredibly beautiful city with tons of history. And you will spend your time doing paragliding, a zip line and "Adventure Canyon," all of which you could do over a weekend somewhere near your home. Are you leaving time for exploring Salzburg, and visiting the historic places there? Also, look into attending a concert in the Palace - how often do you get to do something like that?
