Italy train strikes Oct 5 AND 12???

We are not so lucky as to be in Italy this October, but I see so much confusion about this topic I wonder if someone here can help straighten things out for the people who are affected.

2particular points of confusion:

—-It appears the Ot. 5 strike affects “local transport” and there are conflicting views on whether this includes regional trains like Trenord and Trenitalia R and RE trains. Or is it only buses, trams, and metro (underground) trains. And what about lake ferries and boats?

—-The second strike is for trains, but referring to it as an “October 12” strike is confusing because it apparently does not start until 9 pm that date. Then it runs for 24 hours until 9 pm on the 13th. So the problem is mainly for people Planning to travel on the 13th.

I can’t read Italian so I can’t help people sort this out. But maybe someone with knowledge and experience in matters involving transport in Italy can. ( Sam?)

We are in Naples right now.
Today at the main train station,I asked at the Trenitalia Customer Service/Ticket Office if there are train strikes on October 5th as we have two connecting trips booked for that day.
She assured me that there is no notice of any train strikes that day, either high speed or Regionale services.
However she said to keep looking at Trenitalia.com just to be sure.
No idea about Oct 9th or Oct. 12th, but if it doesn’t start till 9pm, the day trains should be ok?
If I find out any more, I’ll let the Forum know.

The October 5 strike is a “Local Transportation” strike targeting all Italian city buses, trams and “commuter train operators” and metropolitan trains ( ie “the Metro”).
It does NOT target the trains of Trenitalia or Italotreno— whether a “Regionale” train of Trenitalia or a high-speed train of Trenitalia or Italotreno.
Some publications say regional trains are targeted, but they are referring to commuter trains run by agencies other than Trenitalia.
The Italian government website does not state during what hours the October 5 strike will occur, but since it is a 24-hour strike, it would appear to include all 24 hours of October 5.

The Nationwide train strike that begins October 12 at 9 pm and runs to 20:59 ( 8:59 pm) on October 13. will affect train travelers during only 3 hours of October 12 and all but 3 hours on October 13.

The October12/13 strike targets ALL Trenitalia and Italotreno trains including Regionale (“RE” trains) and high-speed trains. Because the strike occurs from 21:00 Saturday on October 12 through 20:59 on Sunday, October 13– there will be no Regionale guaranteed trains running during the strike.
No one knows how many train employees will actually strike and therefore no one can predict how extensive train cancellations will be during a strike.
The safest assumption is that the strike could affect any train during the hours the strike is scheduled, with the exception of any applicable trains on the “guaranteed” train list.
You can still reach your destination during most of October 12. On October 13, the private bus companies such as Flixbus and Itabus will be running as usual.

I called Trenitalia this morning and was told again that there are no strikes of Trenitalia services on October 5th.
Trenord services are affected however.

Hello Everyone!
I could use your help.
We arrive in Rome Saturday October 5 and have Trenord train tickets from Termini to Spoleto.
As a back up plan I also purchsed Intercity train tickets later in the day, in case the Trenord train is canceled.
Any idea if either train will run during the strike?
Thank you!

Trenitalia trains and Italotreno trains are not targets of the strike.
The strike is targeting “ Local Transportation” such as city buses, trams and metro trains.

Trains from Roma Termini to Spoleto are Trentitalia Regional Veloce, Frecciargento, and Intercity trains. No Trenord trains.
