Italy train strike info

I read on Rick's January Travel News this morning a bit about the possibility of train strikes in Italy, what to expect if encountering one, advance notice (not), etc. I went back into the article and couldn't find the same information??? Did anyone else see it? Did that part disappear? There were several sentences about the train unions, buses as well as trains, info concerning getting to Rome airport during a strike - lots of good information - now where is it?

Hi -
Are you mostly concerned about getting to the airport from Rome in the case of a strike?

I have found this website to be a helpful English translation of the official Italian Infrastructure Ministry's site. The Italian site is more complete, but even when translated requires knowledge of the union acronyms to determine whose doing what when.

Thanks for the help and the PM, Denny. I am going to check out the Italo site also. I have read that they use different stations than the Trenitalia. Could that be a problem? We will be coming from Naples to Florence to Milan airport where we are meeting a friend and leave immediately for Venice. Any tips would be appreciated.

Italo is gaining access to more major stations, Roma Termini for sure, and I think Santa Maria Novella in Florence.

Hello Barb. I can't answer about other stations in other cities; we only rode Italo from Rome Tiburtina (Termini was not an option in April 2014) to Bologna. Check their website or others can answer from experience. We just really liked Italo...website, purchasing, trains and service. It was a godsend the day we rode them when Trenitalia was on strike. Remember to tell your CC company in advance of a charge for tickets. THAT is the voice of experience :-)

I am glad to hear about your experience on Italo. I will check it out and post what I find. Competition is good although Trenitalia early fares can pretty incredible - we had 19euros from Rome to Naples last year for fares 90 days out. You can almost afford to buy a backup in case of strike when timing is critical.
