Italy traffic ticket

Me and my wife were in Italy recently and I just received a traffic violation in the mail. I'm trying to figure out how much I owe and what's the best way to pay it? I prefer to pay with a credit card instead of a bank transfer due to the fees? I also see on the ticket it has the price as 110/86 euros, so I'm not sure if it's the two combined or one of them?

Many receive tickets when renting cars in Italy. Not only to they have ZTL's, but their radar cameras give no leeway in the speed limits.
The best way to pay tickets is through an online European bill pay service. They can charge it to your credit cars and wire transfer the payment directly into the city's checking account. And the best thing is their service fees are actually reasonable. You can find bill pay services on Google.

Emtycrystal44, I think that 86 € is the fine, whereas 110 should be the fine plus the mailing costs and the administrative fees.
Bear in mind that if you renounce to appeal and pay within 5 days from the moment you receive the official fine you can pay with a 30% discount (86 x 0.3).

Nothing happens before the arrival of the official letter from the cops, you just have to wait for it. Who did send you the letter you have already received? Maybe the rental agency?
Is it written in English or in Italian?

This is not true: they give either a 5 kms leeway under 100 kms per hour or a 5% leeway on the posted limit. It's has already been explained at least once.

Given what you know now - would you still prefer rental vehicles over public transportation? Just curious.

As you sure it is the actually ticket? The normal procedure is first a notice from the rental company charging your credit card for an administrative fee for turning you name and address over to the police. That could be 50e. Then about six months later or more, the actual ticket. So be sure you know exactly what you have and what you are paying. If you were just in Italy (one, two months?) it is unusual to get an actual ticket that quick.
