Italy to Prague

Would it be best to fly or take train from Florence/Milan to Prague in July 2014? We are leaving on land/Danube river cruise from Prague to Budapest and trying to decide where to visit before cruise. Berlin does not sound that interesting to us although nearer to Prague. After spending many hours today researching, it appears Italy may be too far.

Linda, That's actually a very easy connection. EasyJet has two flights a day from MXP to PRG, with current fares as low as €48.99 PP. I've flown in the opposite direction and it's a very easy flight, about 1.5 hours or so. As with all budget airlines, be sure to read their Terms & Conditions carefully, especially related to luggage weights. If your checked luggage will be over the allowable limit, it's cheaper to pay for the excess weight at the time of booking rather than at the gate. Also, they typically only allow ONE carry-on item per passenger (and they do enforce that). Happy travels!

Czech Airlines also flies from Florence to Prague. If you were trying to go from Vienna or Budapest into Northern Italy, there area relatively few budget flights. And the train trip between Venice and Vienna is 350+ miles on two trains and a bus in between the two trains.
Those Austrian Alps are tough to get through.
