Italy to Istria

I will be in Italy the end of March, and need to travel to Pula,Croatia, or Rabac-Labin, from Venice. Apparently there are no ferries during March from there. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. I am not sure if renting a car from Trieste would be a good idea? Thanks! Andrea
