Italy Strike September 18 - Need to get from Florence to Cinque Terre

We'll be checking out of our Florence hotel the morning of 9/18 and had booked train tickets to Vernazza. We were hoping to arrive by noon or 1:00 to check into our B&B there. What are your suggestions for allternate transportation if the train strike does indeed happen? We want the cheapest option that also won't take all day/be a major headache. Also, my husband doesn't feel comfortable driving a manual transmission, and I don't really see any automatics available that day, either ...

I just checked the Auto Europe site and found a car with an automatic transmission available on 18 September. However, it's very expensive, even for a short-term rental.

Hi Hiedi. Usually even if there is a strike, some of the trains run, you just need to check the day before to find out which ones will be running. Enjoy your trip!

Bob, thank you, but when I was looking at the (Italian) Trenitalia schedule of guaranteed trains in case of a strike, I didn't see any that would get me close to CT/La Spezia. Am I missing something? Or are you saying that on the day of a strike, some trains that aren't "guaranteed" still run anyway? Thanks.

Hi Heidi. When we were in CT with plans to go to Milan on day of strike, we just went to the ticket office / travel agency the day before and they told us which trains would be running. Looks to me from trenitalia site of guaranteed trains (toscana region) that there will be a 6:10 am train from Florence to La Spezia. If it were me, I would inquire locally a couple of days ahead, but also have a plan B in place to go to CT a day earlier or later if needed.
