Has anyone come across any rental car deals in Italy for June? I've been to various sites but I'm afraid I might be missing something. Looking for a vehicle to accommodate four adults and four checked bags, for eight days beginning and ending at Marco Polo Airport, June 18-26. Many thanks for your help.
AutoEurope gets most of the votes here. They are a consolidator that apparently offers to meet the lowest price you can get from one of the majors. You make the arrangements from here, before you go.
Lorraine,
I normally ask my Travel Agent to arrange Car rentals. She has always been able to find some great deals for me!
Note that to drive in Italy, you'll need the mandatory International Driver's Permit, which must be used in conjunction with your home Driver's License. If there will be more than one driving the rental vehicle, then each will need to have an I.D.P.
A GPS unit along with a good Map for "backup" would be a good idea. Also, you might want to check previous posts here regarding the Zona Traffico Limitato tickets.
Happy travels!
I agree that Autoeurope is your best bet but I don't think that renting a car in Italy is ever very cheap - especially for a car capable of transporting 4 adults and luggage! We rented an Audi with the same requirements and although it was a lovely car to drive, we were definitely one of the larger vehicles on the road (except for the trucks of course!). Parking was sometimes a challenge.
Give sixt.com or sixti.com a try.
We rented from sixti (which is the super budget rental car) but sixt.com has larger vehicles, and no hidden fees.
I am also traveling to Italy in June and found Kemwel to be a better alternative to AutoEurope.
Nova Car Hire is another consolidator and has consistently given me cheaper rates than Auto Europe, I've used them several times.
