Italy-Germany night trains--announcements in couchettes at each stop?

I am debating booking a city night line train from Verona to Munich now run by Austrian Rail. At the stops during the night/early AM, are there announcements for the stops that would wake us up? Or does the train just pull up and stop? We would be in a couchette. Wondering about the ability to sleep from midnight-6am.

I they did, nobody would book a sleeper. Still, there will be no lack of "entertainment" during the night since the train receives cars from Zagreb in Villach and from Budapest in Salzburg.

Your window of sleep is the 2 3/4 hours between Padua and Tarvisio from 11:45 pm and 2:30 am. Train is in Villach for almost an hour connecting other cars from 3:07 to 4:00. That will involve some banging around as the couplings are connected. Short stop at St Veit at 5:18, then Salzburg at 6:15 for 12 minutes.

Sam: that train sits in the Villach station from 00:42 to 01:50 (the times given by you are for the Milano / Roma to Munich train). The train is waiting for the Zagreb cars to be hooked on (first bang); after that it gets a new locomotive (second bang). Third bang in Salzburg just after 4am when the Budapest cars are attached.

It is not only the banging noises of coaches being connected or disengaged that keep one from sleeping. The rail workers at the stops shout and call out to one another loudly, as if it were noon and not 2:00am. Ear plugs might help but really, don’t expect a good night’s sleep.

sla019, That is the NJ 40235 that is direct from Milano Centrale, stopping in Verona, continuing to Salzburg and Munich. That is the train the OP is taking. At least the last time she posted it was. If there are no cars being added, so much the better, but it sits in Villach station for almost an hour.

@ elaine...The night route you are taking is the Austrian Night Jet, which assumed the night routes of DB City Night Line. I can't say specifically whether the announcements at each stop will be made. Why? Because I always sit the general seating area or in a compartment if that train only offers that option. Plus, this doesn't pertain to you since you're going to the last stop.

I do know that 0600 hrs. the conductor comes in and announces when the train will pull in at its terminus.

Since you're going to Munich, no problem as Munich is the terminus. Keep in mind that Munich is an extensive hub for night trains in several directions. With Munich that's the best part taking a night train is with your destination as the terminus.

I always take night train where my destination is the terminus or stop just prior. You should not have any problems sleeping once you are settled in. With that schedule I would be asleep within 40 to 70 mins after boarding. Your family of good troopers will do fine

Oops, I've misread Verona for Venice, sorry! Still, that train receives cars in Villach too, which are arriving from Rome at 3:27.

yes NJ 40235. so there is coupling of cars at Villarch in the wee hours? We have been on trains with coupling, so I understand the banging/jarring, which will at least wake me up. hmmmm. I will have to give that some more thought, as to whether we just take a day train.
