Italian Trains: Buy one-get-one-free trip?

Is this true if you purchase the day before? Is it on all trains? Looking to go to both Florence and Pompeii from Rome.

According to the Trenitalia site, this special is only good on certain trains and only on Saturdays. The last Saturday is 24 September.
