Italian train station

Not sure which station to book. I will be traveling from Venice to Nice. I understand I will need to make a connection in Milan... So is it Milano Centro? and Ventimiglia or Ventimiglia Confine? Also double checking, once I get to Ventimiglia we will be able to buy a ticket to Nice. does anyone know when the last train of the day/night is-or which website I can get that info?
Grazie

Ok, a piece at a time. Use bahn.de if you want scheduling information for all European trains. It is the German rail site but easy to use. In Venice you can buy a ticket all the way to Nice. It will include the stations where you change trains, train numbers, and seat reservations, if necessary.

Frank, thanks for your reply... I tried Bahn.de but it shows very very long travel...overnight with multiple transfers
If I use the Italian train website it takes approx 7 hrs with just one trf in Milan (not counting the transfer from Ventimiglia to Nice.)

Dianna, As Frank mentioned, it would be a better idea to simply book a ticket for your entire journey, rather than look at each leg separately. BTW, the station is just called Ventimiglia (it's the border crossing point). One of the easiest and quickest trips will be a departure from Venezia Santa Lucia at 07:50, arriving Nice Ville at 16:05 (time 8H:15M, two changes at Milano Centrale and Ventimiglia, reservations compulsory on first two legs). It's going to be a LONG travel day, but given the distance you're covering that's probably unavoidable. On their website, Trenitalia only seems to be able to sell tickets as far as Ventimiglia, so you'd have to buy the last segment from SNCF. I've never tried, but you MAY be able to buy tickets for the entire trip by using the SBB (Swiss Rail) website. They currently show fares for the trip I described above for CHF 92 (2nd Class, one passenger aged 26-59). Happy travels!

If you can't buy the segment from Ventimiglia to Nice, don't worry. That is a local train, with no reservations possible, and it runs every half hour. So, you can just buy a ticket at the Ventimiglia station. Nice has several stations; you probably want to get off at the main one, Nice Ville.

You can buy your regionale ticket from Ventimiglia to Nice at the train station in Venezia Santa Lucia if you have a short connecting time between Ventimiglia and Nice. Any train station in Italy can sell tickets for any Italian train.

ok, got it...will book to Ventimiglia on the Italian train site and get a ticket to Nice Ville once we get to Ventimiglia. Anyone know what is the last train from Ventimiglia to Nice Ville? Based on what I see we would get to Ventimiglia a little after 7pm
grazie for your help!

Trenitalia is in the process of uploading its new timetables which will go into effect on 9 June. Until that process is completed the German Rail site cannot give you complete timetables beyond 8 June. If you enter a date no later than 8 June, you'll see all possible departure times and routes for Venice to Nice. All require a connection in Ventimiglia. As others have said, the Trenitalia site doesn't show timetables for Ventimiglia-Nice. The reason is that the trains are operated by SNCF (French National Rail). The German Rail site will show all departure times for Ventimiglia-Nice. The last trains of the day depart at 20:17, 20:47, 21:17 and 23:17.

Once you have entered Venice - Ventimiglia and hit enter, it will bring up schedules. At this point click the edit button for Ventimiglia and enter Nice-ville. You still have to transfer there, but your ticket should be to Nice.
