Italian-france pass or not!

Almost literally I am planning my trip out of your guys advise. I will spend time in Barcelona, Cinque Terra, most of a week in the rest Italy (Rome, Venezia, Florence Assisi) but I am also going to St. Michael's in France. I would like to travel using High speed trains. Should I buy an Italian-France pass or point-to-point. We are a family of 5 with 3 teenagers. Do you have to pay more if you reserve throught High Speed + reservation if you buy a pass or is ti better to go point-to-point any ways even if you are traveling in Frace. So far from Paris to Normandy it can be more than $200.00 along.

No one can begin to tell you whether a pass or point-point is best without you giving more information like and itinerary, 1st vs 2nd class, ages. A 5 day, second class Saver pass is about $60 (€45) per day. The net cost (full fare minus supplements) of tickets in Italy is probably a lot less the $60 per day, but the long trip from somewhere in Italy (no itinerary) to Paris could make the pass pay, depending on if you get favorable advance purchase tickets from TGV, or not.

There is no substitute for hard work. Determine an itinerary and price the days of travel both way. Look for discounted, advance purchase tickets, like PREMS. For full fare, point-point tickets , teenagers over a certain age pay the adult fare, below some age they are either half price or free.

Adding to Lee's post: If you give us your exact itinerary (just routes, not dates), we can be more helpful in telling you how to get discount fares.

We arrive in Barcelona but we are fling to Milan Malpensa late at night so we have to head to Milan in am to take train to Cinque Terra. From there, back to Milan to go to Venice. From Venice we go to Rome for our home city base. We will take trips from Rome to Florence, Assisi and Naples and Pompeii. We will fly to Orly, visit Paris, and Mount St. Michael's. We fly back to Barcelona and from there back home. The teenagers are 13,16 and 18.
