We are looking at going to Rome this summer from Washington DC
ITA has a direct flight to Rome.
Any experience with this airline? I thought Italian Airlines went bankrupt a few years back. Is this the same airline under new management?

They split Alitalia in 2: the Italian taxpayers will be paying for years the debts of the bad company, while Lufthansa is buying ITA Airlines. Most probably to change it into a regional airline feeding Munich and Frankfurt airports.

Lufthansa has signed a letter of intent to take a minority stake in ITA.
"The parties will now start negotiations on the structure of a
possible participation," Lufthansa's statement said.

Under the terms of the bidding process, Lufthansa has to ensure it
will develop Italy's main hubs and guarantee ITA has access to
strategic markets as well as increases its long-haul routes.
