Island Transportation: Capri/Corsica/Mallorca

Wife and I were going to do a trip over Thanksgiving this year, but we have to push it back to mid-late April of next year. We were thinking about doing an island trip this time (have done Portugal/Spain, Italy, and London/Paris mainland in the past). We were thinking of Capri, Corsica, and Mallorca. The order is only important if it would affect the complication of the itinerary. What options are there between the islands. Are there ferries/ships that sail between or is the best plan to fly? For this trip, I guess trains won't be one of the options.

You need to fly between these islands. Capri actually doesn't have an aiport, it is a tiny island just off the coast near Napoli. The only other island Corsica is connected by sea is Sicilia. All your flights will likely involve trips to mainland airport hubs as well.

Check out www.seat61.com for all manner of ferry rides across Europe, Capri, Corsica included. Go to tripadvisor.com, Capri forum and Corsica forum for great advice on both. it's easier than you think.

Thanks for the replies, Andre and George. I'll have to do a little research on this one. I prefer to minimize transportation unless it's part of the experience.

I do not believe there are ferries between those Islands Mallorca is serviced from ports in Spain, maybe France, Corsica mainly from France, but also Italy, more likely via Sardinia, and Capri is really only serviced by local ferries from Naples or the Amalfi Peninsula. If I were to try to string something together something, I would head to Barcelona, ferry or flight to Mallorca, back to Barcelona, train to a port in France (Marseille?), Ferry to Corsica, Hop to Sardinia, Ferry to Civitavecchia outside Rome, Train ro Naples/Sorrento and ferry or day trip to Capri. To quicken things, look at whichbudget.com to find air routes, you may for instance be able to fly from Mallorca to Milan, then head to Genoa to catch a ferry to Corsica or a second flight. The other thing to keep an eye out for is that April is still low season, ferries and even flights may be limited to these mainly high season destinations.

Thanks Paul, that sounds like a lot of time in transit as opposed to being on vacation. We may have to plan for a couple of islands, with a mainland connector that's convenient.
