Is this a good price Detroit to Munich

Greetings, I saw (on Kayak) a price of $1187 per person, open jaw non-stop both ways, from Detroit to Munich, and then Frankfurt back to Detroit. This is during the first week in September. I think it is pretty good, it's better than other prices I have seen.

Should I wait? Or is this pretty good??

Thank you.

It is so-so, but then you are a captive of Delta in Detroit. Used to be you could get a great price on Air Canada out of Windsor with a plane change in Toronto, but it looks to be about the same now.

The price from Windsor does look about the same -- until the exchange rate for the Canadian dollar is reckoned in. The loonie is languishing at 30 per cent or more discount, making the fare up to a couple of hundred dollars cheaper from Windsor if purchased directly from Air Canada. Also to be considered is the nuisance of crossing the Canadian border and taking the small-plane commute to Pearson Toronto.
More generally, current summer fares from Canada are trending at least $150 more than last summer when increased capacity trans-Atlantic forced some discounting. I don't think capacity has been reduced significantly and I'd be inclined to wait until at least late spring to make a September purchase.

Metro Detroiter here - we fly Air Canada out of Toronto. Our last trip we did the layover in Toronto, but this time we're just driving to Toronto to fly out to Spain from there. Saves us about $500 total. Might be worth the savings?

Thank you for your replies. I will wait a bit longer. I have this on watch so I can see what it does. I haven't flown in 20 years... when the price IS right, how would I book this? I hear people saying to book through the airline and NOT through an online 3rd party.

And... @ Southam... I live in Windsor so border hopping isn't an issue. Westland MI is just my US address. 😊

@ Ampshetler... I considered taking the VIA train to Toronto then flying out of Pearson, but then there's that problem of getting from the train station to the airport. Driving there doesn't bother me in the least except I don't want my car there for 3 weeks. I also priced out the Robert Q shuttle and it's over $450 there and back. Yikes.

There is a direct train to Pearson Airport now from Union Station In Toronto, which looks totally accessible to the VIA line. Check it out - it's a 25 min straight shot from Union Station.

I would keep tracking that airfare from Detroit for a few months. I agree, $1187 is not that great. Worth tracking and waiting - you've still got plenty of time.

I just checked Skyscanner out of Toronto instead of Detroit and it was substantially cheaper. Well under $2000 CDN total for 2. I love the direct shuttle idea... I will check it out!

Thanks to all for your answers. Keep them coming!! Lol

I recommend doing frequent checks on Delta's website. Sometimes random low fares pop up for no particular reason -- often in the morning. I snagged a roundtrip Sept flight from GSP (Greenville-Spartanburg, SC) to Zurich for $650 a few weeks ago on a Saturday morning; the price out of Atlanta was similar. That deal was gone the next morning when I checked. Last summer on a Tuesday morning, I nabbed a random $824 fare on an October GSP-France open-jaw trip that had been running $1500; that deal was gone that afternoon when I checked.

Several other posters have reported experiences like Dave's. Although there are no guarantees, it really is worth the time to check fares very frequently (ideally, daily). Deals can crop up for specific origins going to specific destinations, and there's no guarantee that someone here will notice deals from Detroit to Germany and post about them in time for you to react.
