Is this a good price?

I'm going on ETBD Venice, Florence and Rome tour in December. Delta is the only airline I can find that flies non-stop into Venice. However, b/c I'd have to go through JFK, I'd prefer to avoid this route (more because of possible snow than anything else). As such, I've decided to fly into Milan and spend a couple of days there (can go through Atlanta into Milan). The price Delta is quoting for the following itinerary is $885: RDU-ATL-MXP, return FCO-ATL-RDU. Is that a good price? My gut tells me that I'll end up paying more if I wait but I've not traveled enough to know any different. Any insight? Thanks!

That same itinerary for this July prices out at about $1500 so you are already getting a pretty hefty off-season discount. Given the financial status of the airlines and the unlikelihood that there will significant increases in competition or decreases in fuel costs the $885 looks pretty good. I think I would lock it in.

Kim, make sure you understand the fine print on fuel surcharges though. Some airlines do ask for an additional fuel surcharge prior to departure even though the ticket was paid for in total months ago - provided they had to add another surcharge in the meantime.

That is a pretty good price. Considering fuel charges will only go up, you can do better in a few months, but if you're committed to the tour already, you probably want to get flights squared away too. Not to freak you out, but make extra, extra sure it's a Delta flight proper and not a codeshare with Alitalia (see other posts on this board re: the iffy status of this airline).
