Is there an app for rail pass calculations?

I will be staying in Bern for 3 weeks with some freedom to travel. Then, I'll be traveling to Paris for one week with a couple of weeks after that to go to Germany, Austria and back to Switzerland. Does it seem reasonable to buy a 22-day Swiss pass and then a 3 week Eurail Select pass, since the Eurail pass that would cover 6 weeks doesn't seem to cover much in Switzerland (there seem to be lots of exceptions)?

Louise, You could also try RailSaver which offers a couple of different ways of presenting the information (ie: Railpass only, If less expensive, etc.). Happy travels!

You're right, Ken. It was RailSaver I used, with all the limitations I mentioned. And I did specify "if less expensive", and it did recommend the pass, and it wasn't.

Railpass.com pretends to do that calculation for you, but I don't think they are very accurate. First, you have to give then an itinerary (not necessarily exact dates, but a sequence of connections. Second, they only seem to recognize major stops. I've tried using the places I go, and find I have to substitute nearby towns because they can't use my actual stops. Third, they only use the most expensive trains and full fares in their calculations, which biases the result toward rail passes (but then, they do sell rail passes). I've used railpass.com for trips I have already taken, and had them recommend a railpass, at a price far greater than what I actually paid for p-p tickets.
