Is Night Train Travel Safe (Paris - Rome) ?

I was planning to take the night train from Paris to Rome but read some reports of a couple being drugged and robbed in their private compartment. Is this a one-off case or does this happen occassionally? Any specific routes to avoid for night travel?

Thanks

This seems to be one of those urban legends that keeps surfacing every once and a while...drug-laced cloth or paper slipped under door...people drugged out...robbers clean out their compartment. You can lock the compartments, so you shouldn't have any problems.

I agree with Norm that this is an urban legend.

I've read about these stories, too. I'm not necessarily a fan of night trains, but that has more to do with comfort than safety. The plain truth: sometimes bad things happen, but most of the time, everything is fine. Use common sense.
