I'll be flying Delta from the US into Amsterdam and am scheduled to land at 8:40 am. I'm hoping to hop on a connection to Prague at 10:55. Is this realistic?
Should be adequate with the normal caution - if you plane is on time. If it is a single ticket, I would not worry about it since they would be responsible for getting you to Prague should you miss the 10.55. It is a big airport but works pretty well. BUT -- if two separate tickets then you have some risk with no fall back.
PS -- I just read your other question. Looks like you are running on two separate tickets. In that case, book a wider window. You will need to go through both immigration and customs in Schipol and then check-in and security with the other airline. Many of the discounts will close the check-in desk 45 minutes prior to departure you really have about 1.5 hour between flights. That could be a little tight.
FWIW, on Saturday I will have 1:10 between landing in Amsterdam (from Portland) and my connecting flight to Zurich.
Near as I can tell, I will need to go through immigration/border control, but not through Security. I think there's a good chance I make it (it's a scheduled Delta itinerary), but there are later flights if I miss it due to late arrival in Amsterdam or long lines. Certainly no time to stop and see the airport!
I recently made my connection, KLM from Budapest to San Francisco, in 1 hour and 40 minutes and it was extremely tight so I had to move swiftly to get through passport control, use the restroom and buy a bottle of water (where I had to show my boarding pass, seemed quite odd) and when I arrived at my gate boarding was in progress. You should be fine.
Just ask the flight attendants if u can deplane before the other passengers.
Thatnshould help.
I have flown recently on Delta twice from Atlanta to Amsterdam to make connections (to Venice and Vienna, respectively). Both flights were ticketed through Delta's site (1 ticket, not separate) and landed in the very early morning in Amsterdam, so it was less busy. One connection was a little over an hour and one was ~50 minutes, and I made both connections easily. I was a little surprised that Delta offered such a short layover.
Your plan looks like it could work if everything runs like a finely tuned Swiss time piece.
You may want to consider giving yourself a little 'fudge factor'.
Thanks for all of the replies. Definitely looks like I'll be getting a later flight. If I booked a 4:20 pm flight (KLM to Prague) would that give me enough time to take the train down town and enjoy a lunch?
Assuming that your plane is on time 2 hours and 15 minutes is sufficient. I fly from Seattle to Prague via Amsterdam by Delta once to twice a year many times with a shorter layover and I missed my connection only once but that was shorter layover. They put me on later plane. Few times it happened that I made it but my luggage came by later plane.
Jeremy--- I think you made a smart choice.
Unlike llja, you are booking separate fights and you would not "get put on the next flight" if you missed yours. You would be stuck buying another ticket
