Is it possible to transfer airline tickets?

I made a reservation for 4 for a flight from Rome to London (July 28 on BA). We are have second thoughts about our itinerary. Of course, if I cancel via the British Airways I do not get much money back. It is practically loosing the entire sum. Is there way to transfer the tickets to someone else who might need them?

Thanks

Thanks everyone for the reply. I did purchase the tickets and they are economy, non-refundable types. Sounds like it would be worth calling the Airline and see what they can do.

Thanks.

I suggest you read the conditions of carriage that came attached to your ticket purchase. This probably spells out the conditions for your ticket.

Unfortunately, unless you bought a refundable ticket, you must either take the flight yourself or change the flight to some other place and/or date (and pay the appropriate change fee). You might be able to sweet talk the airline into not charging you the fee, but getting your money back altogether is unlikely. And a name change is probably out too. Good luck.

Probably not. Airlines are very strict abotu those things because they used to get killed when people would transfer cheap tickets (especially mileage tickets) to people via the unofficial marketplace (read Classifieds and craigslist). As noted above, if it is a refundable ticket, maybe, but probably not otherwise.

Since it's a major airline and not a budget one, they might let you credit the amount paid towards another ticket with different departure and arrival destinations. There may be a fee or there may not.

My suggestion is you call BA, tell them you're thinking of changing your itinerary and ask what you can do to not lose all your money.

Now you said you "made a reservation." But from everything else you say, it sounds like you "bought the tickets." These are two very different things.

Making a name change on a ticket is one of the things most airlines hate to do. It partly has to do with security regulations that are very strict. It is unlikely you can do this because it amounts to a name change. We have found out there that it is a big hassle even to get a misspelled name corrected on a ticket.
