Is Greece the kind of place where you can

I desperately wanted to leave Germany since it's been cold for the last week, so I was fortunate to have found a cheap roundtrip ticket to Mykonos, leaving next Wed. I am in the midst of looking for (cheap) accommodations as I will be traveling on a tight budget. I have never stayed in hostels before and this will be my first time to Greece. What should I expect? My plan is to book accommodations for the first couple of nights and then see who I'll meet along the way and perhaps hop to another island...but all the ferry info I've found are SO confusing and daunting. Alternate plan is to stay put in Crete-good idea or bad? I want to have a fun, social time but I am not looking for hard core partying, which is what Mykonos is known for. Can someone please simplify Greece for me? HEEEELP!

Hi Kim,
I am a bit confused. Are you flying into Crete or Mykonos? If it is Mykonos then definately book accomodation for the first two nights as this is peak season. Naxos, Paros and Santorini are nearby and the ferries will be much clearer once you are there. If you are flying into Crete then it is large enough to stay put and explore if you don't feel like moving on. Have a great holiday.

PS If you end up in Paros check out Naoussa. It is still lively with everything you need but not quite as hard core party as the main town. There are some lovely rooms called Sakis Rooms. He has a website.
