is 2 hours enough time to change planes at heathrow

in booking we have two options. Arriving from Vancouver at Terminal 5 connecting to terminal 3 to Manchester with 2 hours in between flights....

the other options gives us something like 5 hours in between flights.

Is 2 hours enough time? I am assuming it is since this is the option BA is giving us

2 hours must be enough time or BA would not book it but you will probably have to take the shuttle bus between terminals so dont hang around...just head for Terminal 3 ASAP. Heathrow is massive and they are always building something so dont think you have time to start wandering about or heading into London for tea......We use Heathrow a lot and I never waste time until I'm actually sitting at the next gate for departure.

WElllllll.....ask BA if they will just transfer you w/o any fees if you miss the earlier flight.

Your flight fom Vancouver could be late....very heavy air traffic at LHR...I have often been in a holding pattern for quite a while before landing.

The infamous Terminal 5 is at quite a distance from Terminal 3. I don't know the actual transfer time from 5 to 3 but you might find some infomation on the Heathrow web site. Terminal 5 is the one that just had all the baggage problems this week.

Since you are arriving from Canada and transferring to a domestic flight, you will also have to go though immigration.

You may have no problem but then again.......I don't like drama when arriving half asleep so I would go for the later flight but that's just me!!! I go though Terminal 3 all the time and it is very busy
and big! (and I fly off season). There are lots of shops and places to eat at T. 3 to keep you busy.

If all goes well, two hours may be enough, but we have had bad experiences twice coming through Heathrow. Our flight left late from Chicago to Heathrow, and we missed our flight out of Heathrow to Athens. On the return trip we arrived on time at Heathrow, but were unable to reach the terminal we were departing from due to a bus accident. The only way to get there was on the underground, which meant we had to go through customs, enter England, and pass through security again. They were announcing last call for our flight back to Chicago as we were coming through security, when they pulled my purse for a random check. Luckily my son and husband were able to run for the gate and we just made it. These were both two hour layovers. So now I opt for a longer layover if possible.

thanks I have never gone through Heathrow before, always avoided it. So I was thinking 2 hours seemed tight to me. I have emailed BA anyway just to see but like you said one thing has to go wrong and then it becomes an issue

Two hours will be cutting it close.

Too bad about the terminal switch. I have lucked out with both my flights this September using Terminal 5.

I'd go with the 2 hours. I've transferred at LHR many times and have done it within that window, even switching terminals (although I have not been to the new terminal 5). I have missed my connection twice, but on both occasions it was because my flight from the States was delayed (I knew before I arrived that I would miss my connection). On both occasions, I was put on the next flight. I'd rather rush through Heathrow than sit there for 5 hours.

I would suggest that you print out the flight options between LHR and Manchester. If for any reason you miss your flight go to the airline desk with the knowledge of what your options might be.

well I got an eamil from ba they suggest a MIN of 120 minutes to change terminals and made the suggestion for us to chose a flight with more time to connect.
so do we take the chance or don't we?

I would take the chance - the alternative is waiting around for 5 hours after a very long, tiring transatlantic flight. Ultimately, it comes down to your comfort level.

From the sound of BA's response, they're not going to take any reponsibilty if you miss the connection!

You could risk it; it's like others have said here, it depends on your own comfort level. Me personally, I'd take the 5 hour lay-over and not be sweating it. The time passes quickly enough. Good luck!

If bluedenim misses the connection, BA will put put her(?) on a later flight, or reroute through another city or partner airline.
