Interpreting Swiss PostBus timetable

Hi, We're planning to take the Bernina Express from Lugano to Chur, and then hope on a standard train from Chur to Andermatt early the next morning (don't want to wait until the Glacier Express comes by Chur at 11-something o'clock). Where we want to end up from Andermatt is Meiringen, or somewhere close by in the Bernese Oberland. (We plan to hike that day over Grosse Scheidegg to Grindelwald, so the earlier we arrive the better.) So I've been trying to figure out if we could take a PostBus from Andermatt to Meiringenlooks like maybe we can, but I am hopelessly lost as to interpreting the timetable. Here's the pdfand this is a bus timetable not a train, right? http://www.fahrplanfelder.ch/fileadmin/fap_pdf_fields/2012/31.162.pdf I just went to postauto.ch and put in Andermatt and found a route that included Meiringen. Am I doing this right? I would like to know when the bus departs and how long the ride would take. Or is there a better option for cutting across to the Bernese Oberland area from Eastern Switzerland in a time-efficient manner? Thank you for any help!

The rail site sbb.ch will only show the bus connection if you use a date in June, because the bus does not run over the passes until then. You can see the postbus routes on the synoptic map: http://www.swisstravelsystem.ch/fileadmin/pdf/sts_leporello_e_OS.pdf trains are in red, buses in yellow. SBB has you go by train from Andermatt to Oberwald by train to catch the Postbus to Meringen from there. If you do that, then you use this schedule: http://www.fahrplanfelder.ch/fileadmin/fap_pdf_fields/2012/31.161.pdf Scroll down to see the summer schedule which starts June 16. Before that (June 2 to 15) there are fewer buses. Are you planning on hiking all the way over Grosse Scheidegg to Grindelwald that same day? That's a long day. You might consider an overnight stop at Schwartzwaldalp: http://www.schwarzwaldalp.ch/

You're better off using the Swiss Rail site for schedules. It will give you the best connections for all modes of transport: rail, bus, boat, or cable car. http://rail.ch Simply enter Andermatt in the "from" box and Meiringen in the "to" box and it will tell you the best way to travel between the two places.

Thank you so much for the replies! I didn't realize that since I was putting in the locations but leaving the date as February on the sbb.ch website, that no buses were showing up--but putting in my June dates made the buses show up! Those were great tips! Looks like we have a number of options here that would work out for us! Thanks again,
