We are planning to rent a car in Scotland. Is it necessary to have anything other than a valid US drivers' license? And, I have read varying reports of rental restrictions based on age. My husband is 69. Should there be any difficulties with that?
No and no. Next year the answer will be no and yes.
Some car rental agencies have upper age limits and some do not. When the time comes you can research it.
Norma's correct, I was thinking in terms of the law. Additionally, some rental ages up the fee, but will still rent your a car, as you get on in years. Being borderline, I think I'm soon going to have to learn how to ride a train.
Hire a Chauffeur Ed. ; ) I have a few years until I can't rent a car, but I still think about it and hope that by the time I reach 70 there will be new actuarial tables or the agencies will be basing their decisions differently. Pam
In a rare fit of tidiness I just came across a copy of the Travel section of the Sunday Telegraph that I brought back from the UK in March. The "Readers' Queries" column answers the question about "seniors" wishing to rent cars. Here is the answer: "Try Avis (08445 818181 avis.co.uk) which doesn't have a maximum age limit as long as you have a valid driving licence."
I believe you will find Hertz has the same policy.
