International Driver's License for Germany?

I had read that you would need a International Driver's license for Austria? The post was from a few years ago. We are staying very close to Austria while in Germany and might want to just go in for a few hours to see what we can see...

Shelley, I don't believe an I.D.P. is compulsory for Germany, but of course it wouldn't hurt to have one (especially given the small cost). You can obtain the Permit in a few minutes at any AMA office. Your nearest AMA office is likely the new one in Sherwood Park (#19 101 Bremner Drive). Note that it's an International Driver's Permit and not a license per se. It must be used in conjunction with your home D.L., so you'll need to pack both. Cheers!

Also remember you need to buy a vinette for your car in Austria. It was like 8 euro for 10 days. There are places to buy them right by the boarder.
