International/ Domestic tickets not linked. Procedure in Paris?

We booked a flight on WestJet to Paris CDG and now we want to book a flight from There to Budapest on Easyjet. 2 totally separate bookings. At this point when we arrive in Paris the airline will not know that we are immediately taking a domestic flight to Budapest. Is there any way to link the travel so that we don’t have to claim our luggage and reclaim our bags? We will only have 1 hour 50 minutes. Or do you think this is enough time to pick up baggage, recheck and go through security?

I would be very worried about that amount of time. If your incoming flight is slightly late, you'll have a big problem. And, you'll need to recheck your luggage and go thru security. Sorry, I wouldn't do it. Good luck!

It's not a domestic flight anyway - Hungary is halfway across Europe from France.

Absolutely not.

You will also have to change terminals. I usually count on it taking an hour from the time my transatlantic flight touches down to getting out the front door of the airport. By then you have most likely already missed the EastJet deadline for bag drop, and you aren't even in the terminal where you need to be.

I would put a day in between these flights. Unless you don't mind having to pay for a walk-up ticket if you miss the one you are planning to book. Pat's idea that this "may" be a problem "if" your flight is late is simply not right. You can't make this flight with this schedule on two separate tickets.

Sorry Deb, but Kim nailed it. With your current scenario you don't have a snowballs chance. You would have missed the check in deadline before you even got to the counter, and then you still would have had to deal with security and getting to your gate. With separate tickets at CDG, I wouldn't feel comfortable with less than 6 hours between flights.

When you book separate tickets on airlines that are not partners, there is no way to link the reservations. As others have said, you will need to deplane, go through passport control, pick up your luggage, change terminals, check-in, go through security, and find your gate (before they shut the doors and will no longer allow boarding). CDG is huge, and sometimes confusing. There’s no way to do all of this in less than two hours.

I would plan to spend a night or two in Paris, and fly to Budapest on the next day or so.

A good website to help you understand the CDG airport is https://easycdg.com/

Deb, G-d willing and everyone is on time .... maybe you make it.

Check now for the next possible flight and be ready to buy another ticket. Dont worry, wont be expensive ..... hoping there is on that same day though. If you can make this a carry-on only trip, that will sure help.

Just noticed the concern about the check in time. You check-in for the next flight online, before you even leave the states. I dont see how that is an issue. Getting from point A to point B in the airport might be, but if you already have the tickes, go for it. You never know you might make it. I suspect a 50/50 chance you make it.

I looked. Most days there is an Air France to Budpaest about 9pm.

The check in time that responders mentioned relates to the cut off time by which the OP will need to have dropped off their luggage at the check in desk. Even when they’ve checked themselves in online and already have their boarding pass, they will still need to drop off their luggage at the counter.
Given the layout at CDG, the passport control, luggage pickup, luggage drop off, security etc, there is very little chance to do this in such a short time.

Dutch_traveler, you are correct. I missed that. They will have the option of abandoning their luggage at the airport and getting on the flight. :-) Or go carry-on only and you still might make it. Then there is that 9pm Air France flight

EasyJet baggage drop-off closes 40 minutes prior to the flight departure time.

So you already have to have made it to the front of the baggage drop line by then. In a separate terminal, after having deplaned, found your way to immigration (sometimes near, sometimes far -- time before last I had a 17-minute walk just to get to the tram that would TAKE ME to the building in which immigration is; last week I had to board a bus to get from the plane to the terminal), gone through immigration, made it to baggage claim, retrieved bags, reoriented yourselves upon exiting the secure area, found the signs for your departure terminal, and made your way there to the correct check-in desks and got in line.

Bag drop closes 40 minutes before flight; boarding closes 30 minutes before flight. So effectively you have 80 minutes, not 110 to make the easyjet flight.

With carry on luggage ( that complies with easyjet policies- https://www.easyjet.com/en/help/baggage/cabin-bags), your chances of success are miniscule. With checked bags to deal with your chances of success need an electron microscope to find.

You need a different plan. I suggest making it now and not when you are at CDG.

I’m sorry. The time to ask this is before you book because the truth is everyone’s right you aren’t going to make it. It would take a miracle.

Maybe if you pay for the VIP service to escort you there is han outside chance, but highly unlikely in my opinion

it’s a minimum of an hour to get through immigration and baggage claim. You generally don’t land anywhere close to immigration. It’s not like you walk off the plane and hand over your passport. You’ve got a good trek to immigration and then baggage claim to wait on baggage. Your chances of being at the EasyJet counter to recheck baggage 40 minutes in advance or just basically nonexistent I think. Keep in mind on these budget carriers if the cut off for bag drop is 40 minutes, that doesn’t mean you’re in line, It means you have handed over your luggage. If you’re in line and there are 50 people in front of you at 40 minutes they consider that your fault not theirs.

You need to rebook one of these, whichever one is cheaper, and allow a minimum of four hours between flights

Or do you think this is enough time to pick up baggage, recheck and go through security?

I would like to answer this succinctly....

No.
