Interlocken to Jungfraujoch

What is the least expensive train ticket round trip from Interlocken Ost to the top of Jungfraujoch? What is the best route to take?

There is only one way. You must deal with BOB. (Berner Oberland Bahn). Wait a minute, you can climb the face of the Eiger. If Clint Eastwood can do it, any one can.

You will take a regional train from Interlaken Ost to Lauterbrunnen. From there, you will take a train to Kleine Scheidig, where you will change trains to the Jungfraujoch. This is not at all hard, but it is time consuming. You can Google Kleine Scheidig or Jungfraujoch and find a lot of what you need to know. The ice palace at the Jungfraujoch is worth the trip by itself. We just bought tickets onsite, so I have no idea about cost. It is rather expensive to do anything in Switzerland.

Regular fare for a return ticket from Interlaken is 197 CHF, unless you have a Swiss Pass or Half Fare Card. The Good Morning ( early morning) and Good Afternoon( after 15:30) trips are 145 CHF.

From Interlaken you will change trains in Lauterbrunnen and then make a quick stop in Wengen...both of those villages have lots of hotels, restaurants, things to do and see. They're much more enjoyable than Interlaken which is NOT in the alps.

What's up with showing us a schedule and price for Interlaken -> Grindelwald -> Kleine Scheidegg? K. Scheidegg is on the way to the Jungfrau but not all the way.

The expensive part of the trip is above Kleine Scheidegg, from there to Jungfraujoch. A return ticket for that is 120 CHF ( price straight from the Jungfrau.ch website). So the total, according to the same website, is 197.60.

Thanks to all for the information. I had the same results, but did not know if it was a miss-print; $199.00 to travel aprox. 8 kilometers! I am sure the view is magnificent, but hiddiously expensive. I traveled from Mendosa Argentina to the base of Aconcagua in the Andes, the tallest peak in western hemisphere, for $30. The trip is about 100 kilometers. Yes, I know Argentina is not Switzerland, but relative value of Jungfrau excurtion does not add up! I will go one day, not this trip. Again thanks to all for the info. Any question on Andes or Patagonia, let me know.

Kevin, if you are a strong hiker or mountaineer, you can get yourself to places equally spectacular as the Jungfraujoch on your own two feet (maybe with skis and climbing skins or crampons attached). And you won't be crowded by several thousand of your best friends when you get there. I view the Jungfraujoch trip as a tourist temptation for people who would not otherwise visit such a high and remote place. It is very expensive, due in large part that for the last 40 minutes of the trip, the train travels in a tunnel inside the Eiger. Those are expensive kilometers of track to build. It is a novelty to ride that train and end up so high in the mountain, but it is not a necessary part of a trip to the Berner Oberland, in my view. For some great views for free, hike up the Gemse Weg (goat path) from Wengen to Männlichen, then stroll the level path along the ridgetop to Kleine Scheidegg, and back down to Wengen on an easy path past farms and cows. Or hike up to the top of the First gondola in Grindelwald (or pay to ride the gondola) and look across to some of the highest peaks in the alps, then hike onward to the top of the Faouhorn, where you will really feel you are on top of the world: http://www.berghotel-faulhorn.ch/
