We will be staying in Interlaken in late June. 4 of us would like to visit Zermatte for one day, returning to Interlaken. How can we do so? Train? Bus? We have Swiss Passes.Any other recommendations as to which attractions to visit? We 'll spend 2 nights in Zurich, 3 in Interlaken and 2 in Geneve.
You can easily check schedules at the Swiss Rail site:

It's a two hour rail journey, with two changes:Spiez and Visp.
The first train of the day is at 6:06am from Interlaken West station. After that there are departures every 30 minutes. To be honest, you're better off staying in the Interlaken region. The Jungfrau, and Schiltorn are every bit as spectacular.

My advice is not to do this. You'll have a few hours in Zermatt at best unless you plan to go to and from Zermatt in the dark. Even Rick recommends spending two nights in Zermatt rather than just coming in for an overnight - a day trip, from Interlaken in particular, is doubly time-constrained.
Otherwise, assume you leave Interlaken West at 9:11, you arrive in Zermatt at 11:14. You can leave Zermatt around 7:13 PM and get back to Interlaken at 9:51. So that's 4 1/2 hours of travel for 8 hours in Zermatt.
Scratch Zermatt. It's not worth the time or trouble.
Hi Chrisitie,
With 3 nights (2 full days) in Interlaken, I'd spend all my available time in the Berner Oberland. While Zermatt and the Matterhorn were "must see's" for myself (we spent 3 nights there), if I had the time you have, I'd skip Zermatt. The Berner Oberland is much more scenic in my opinion.
