Interlaken to Rome

We will be flying into Zurich on the 4th of Sept., riding the train down to Wengen, staying there a week and would like to head to rome after. Can someone suggest how we should go? Should we go back and fly out of Zurich or take the train down to rome. Suggestions appreciated.

That stretch between Interlaaken and Milan is a gorgeous drive. I think the train goes much the same route?

If you don't want to see anything in between, flights are probably best, if not, there's a lot to see along the way...! :)

The train will take you from Interlaken Ost (East) do Spiez where you will change to higher-speed trains. CLICK HERE to see what the runs look like from Interlaken Ost. Try for the 7:29am run. Fewer train changes and I believe that the 51 CIS is the faster "tilting" train. The carriages tilt into the turns (at least it used to).

Hello Christie. I would travel in trains to Rome (via Milan and Florence). Search for the trains schedule, going from Switzerland, that would involve being in the least number of trains. The train ride from Florence to Rome is one hour and 35 minutes, in an Italian Euro Star Train. That is a pleasant train trip.

You can also take a train from Interlaken Ost to Spiez and connect with a direct night train to Rome. You would lose out on the scenic views afforded by taking the train during the day, but you would save the cost of a night in a hotel and have more time for on-your-feet sightseeing.

Thanks for the helpful info, a night train sounds fun as neither my husband or myself has ever spent the night on a train, it would be an interesting journey.
