My wife and I will be traveling from Interlaken Ost to Luzern via the Brunig pass route on Wednesday October 10 , 2012 . the train departs at 9:04 . Since this is a leg of the Golden Pass route , are reservations advisable ? our travel is covered by our fall special Swiss saver pass . Many Thanks in advance for everyone's help
I took this same route at same time of day in June 2011 without reservation. The train was not close to full, so no need for reservation.
The Golden Pass trains as well as the regular trains run on the same tracks. You most likely won't need reservations on the non-Golden Pass trains. Your Swiss saver pass will cover either train.
Thanks to all for your advice and comments. I'd like to pass something along that I think would be of interest . In the late seventies , PBS aired a series called " Great Railway Journeys of the World " One episode of particular notability was " Changing Trains " written and presented by Eric Robson . Punch it into youtube as someone has posted it there . It's a wonderful travelogue that starts in Paric and flows east to Budapest tracing the great rail trips of the early twentieth century . A very romantic hour with very poetic narration by Mr. Robson . Enjoy !!
oops. that should be Paris , sorry
The 9:04 is a regular regional train and reservations are not even possible. Just hop on and find seats, and show your pass when the conductor comes around. We like to sit on the right side past the lakes, then switch to the left side for Brunig Pass.
