Any suggestions on the best way to travel from Interlaken to Rome? We will be in Switzerland Sept. 5th - 12th then would like to go to Rome for a few days and wondered if we should fly or take a train? Suggestions Please.
The fastest trains go Interlaken to Rome in 7hrs 15mins to 7 hrs 45mins, go here to see the schedules http://bahn.hafas.de/bin/query.exe/en
If you fly, your cheapest route should be either Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg to Ciampino on easyJet or Geneva to Ciampino on easyJet.
You are on the seam. Counting travel time to and from airports, early check in, etc., the airline would not be significantly quicker. I would rather be riding a train thought the mountains of Switzerland than waiting in an airport lounge or looking for taxis to get to and from the airport.
Once you decide on your method, be aware that there are two RR stations in Interlaken.
That did not affect our travel there, but it might affect yours. When you reserve, ask which station you must use.
