If I lease a car in France and drive to Italy and back to France what is the best way to provide car insurance? From the company or my own briker before I leave? Thanks for your help.
Roger
You aren't likely to find any American insurance company that will cover rental cars in Europe. Your options are to get the insurance from the company you are leasing from or from a third party insurer. Third party insurance may be cheaper but if there is a claim you may have to pay it out of pocket first and then be reimbursed by the insurer.
If you lease a car (usually for at least 17 days) it covers everything, including insurance. There is no nickle and diming you when you pick the car up or drop it off. The advantage to picking up and dropping off in France is there is no extra fee. If you were to pick it up in France and drop it off in Italy there would be a charge for dropping it off outside of France.
Renting a car you will need to pay extra if you want insurance. I doubt your own insurance company will cover you in Europe.
I believe Renault Eurodrive now requires a 21-day minimum lease. With Peugeot Open Europe it's still 17 days minimum.
Well I think I know what I need to. My agent is unable to sell me any insurance for europe, nor can he find a broker. That being said I have found out that insurance is included with my lease. I can upgrade for greater coverage if I wish. Someting I just might do. Thank you all for your words of advice.
My lease had full CDW included in the price so I didn't have to make a decision.
I have credit cards that offer "free" insurance on rentals. It's a contractual agreement with my card so I have no doubt they will do what they promise but I may have to shell out a lot then ask for (and wait for) reimbursement from the cc company.
The cheapest annual car insurance company I've come across and used is: icarhireinsurance.com
If anyone finds any cheaper I'd be willing to hear
