We are traveling on the train from Venezia Saint Lucia to Innsbruck, looking at a B and B in Ehrwald for an easy trip up the Zugspitze the next morn, are there any connections that we can make, approx cost? We arrive Innsbruck 18:38, also how early are we able to go uo the Zugspitze? I have heard the trip up from Austria side is quicker and cheaper. Thanks so much for your help again!
We went through Ehrwald on our way from Pfronten to Garmisch-Partenkirchen. If you buy a Bayern-Ticket in Mittenwald, continuing on to Ehrwald is included. Although you will be in Austria, you'll be traveling on the Ausserfernbahn (which goes between Pfronten (Kempten actually) and Garmisch-Partenkirchen. The Ausserfernbahn is run by German Rail and the Bayern-Ticket is valid there. Actually, I originally suggested the Bayern-Ticket because I thought you were going to Munich that day. Since the one-way fare from Mittenwald to Ehrwald is only €7,20, you would be better off buying a standard point-point ticket there. You should also check the price of an Austrian Rail ticket (not shown online, oebb.at) from Innsbruck to Ehrwald. Up_date: the fare from Innsbruck to Ehrwald is €12,60/p. I found that on Verkehrsverbund Tirol, www.vvt.at. That surprised me, since the train goes through Germany and the Tirol website shows a change of trains in Garmisch-P.
Hi Melanie, The Zugspitze is cheaper from Ehrwald. You can compare the costs at these websites: http://www.zugspitze.de/en/summer/preise/ http://www.zugspitzbahn.at/zugspitzbahn/en/gipfelbesucher_winter.html?topmodul=preise Hours from Ehrwald are 8:40am to 4:40pm (every 20 min.) Paul
