I am trying to get my kids, college age, from Milan to around Marseille, France in July...any suggestions...Ryan Air or Eurail?
Ryanair doesn't fly between Milan and Marseille.
The only airline that flies direct between those two cities is Germanwings--and it looks like they may be discontinuing this route.
I did find a few flight with a change of plane in Paris. Try DoHop.com
Eurail is not a train. It is a type of railpass. The trip between Milan and Marseille will take between 9 and 9 1/2 hours depending on which train you choose. Schedules and tickets for trains are rarely available more than 90 days out.
wow..thanks for the information, that helps a lot..Richard
RyanAir does fly between London Stansted and both Milan and Marseille, so you could fly from Milan (10:00) to Stansted (11:00) and then from Stansted (19:15) to Marseille (22:20), but that take longer than the train.
There is a later flight from Milan, but it only allows 55 minute in Stansted, and you have to check in at least 40 min before flight time. A "problem" with RyanAir is that they consider themselves a point-to-point airline and their only responsibility (if that) is to get you to you destination sometime. If the RyanAir leg from Milan to Stansted is late, and you miss your flight to Marseille, you lose your ticket (no rescheduling, no refund), EVEN if you miss it due to their fault.

www.easyjet.com
www.flybe.com

Not sure if Easyjet or Flybe fly this route, but the other two websites are discount airfare. We used these sites to find our inter-Europe tix...
The bestway is to search on www.skyscanner.com
You can start your search in Milan and as arrival point France. It will give you more options and a larger view of the flights.
Bea...you might want to look at other flight search engines in addition to Skyscanner. I was able to find cheap flights for Richard on other engines but not skyscanner.
Not all flight search engines are the same. (Just trying to help you get the cheapest flights.)
Thanks. I found out it is best to get the kids from Maplpensa Airport in Milan to Milan Central Rail Station via bus (1 hr. 4.5 EUR) and then to Nice by train (4 1/2)hrs. about 24 to 48 EUR. I'll pick them up drive to our rental house in Provence, then to Barcelona a week later. I can get them on a plane with easyjet incredibly inexpensively...less than 50EUR from Barcelona back to Milan...A tutti gracie...Richard
